When is safety too much safety…

For sure, this is a controversial topic, especially as a healthcare professional.

Preventing injuries and illness is a priority yet patient rights is also a big deal.

As long as the adult is well-informed, they can decide to take risks, right?

So, “safety first” is variable, unpredictable, and personal.

When is safety too much safety?

  • When someone is imposing their own safety values-limits-beliefs on you.

  • Or when you are doing the same to others.

Not an easy answer to swallow when you are taking care of a 91-year-old mother who is of sound mind and not-so-sound body…speaking from experience.

Not easy yet respectful and loving.

Safety is not only for the body, but also for the mind and spirit.
