About Ruth

Ruth E. Smith is a physical therapist and certified clinical hypnotherapist, currently working at the Roseburg, Oregon VA Health Care System. She actively contributes to the Veterans Health Administration’s nationwide initiative to incorporate clinical hypnosis into treatment plans for Veterans.

In January 2025, Ruth published her first book, Without Boundaries: Optimizing Physical Recovery with Self-Hypnosis. She writes and speaks on the vital role of the mind-body-spirit connection in achieving optimal healing. While self-hypnosis is her preferred technique, she also values and supports other holistic approaches.

Ruth is dedicated to educating and empowering healthcare consumers. Drawing on her long career within the healthcare system, she recognizes the urgent need to embrace and integrate the latest research—the clear evidence showing that the mind and spirit directly influence physical health.

Ruth believes the current healthcare system is on the verge of change, as more healthcare professionals recognize the need to modernize and improve the traditional treatment model.

In addition to her VHA employment, Ruth practices clinical hypnotherapy in her private office, face-to-face and virtually. Smith Hypnotherapy specializes in sports performance and physical rehabilitation yet also facilitates the achievement of a variety of lifestyle goals.
