Do you feel like the leader of your health care team?

As you leave a hospital or medical clinic, do you feel like the leader of your health care team? Have you been informed, listened to, and respected? Do you feel like the decision-maker?

As a consumer of health care, you expect to get what you pay for, right? Just like other products and services you pay for…

But for some reason, the health care consumer often feels ignored, pushed around, and powerless.

As a physical therapist, I can feel your sense of despair and dependence. Yes, fragile and uncertain conditions can leave you vulnerable. Yet, I urge you to find your voice and your leadership.

As a proactive “captain,” you don’t have to know everything. You must seek advice and determine options just like when you buy a car or house. But, you must ultimately make choices and take responsibility for them.

Here’s why this matters: If you want your body to do its best healing, your mind must shift into leadership mode. Assertive yet calm. Strong yet flexible. Open-minded yet decisive and committed.

The mind and body are connected…make sure your mind is doing its part!
