Walking as a Spiritual Experience
From a mind-body-spirit perspective, walking is much more than physical exercise.
As you challenge your heart, lungs, joints, and muscles, you can also recognize and engage your spirit — the part of you that values joy and happiness and love and peace.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
-With each step, remember the connection you have with family, friends, co-workers, and/or neighbors. Over and over…
-As you breathe in, say to yourself “filling up with calm and ease.” As you breathe out, say “being right here in this moment.” Over and over…
-Pay attention to your surroundings, what do you see, hear, smell, and feel? Smile as you appreciate the small, often overlooked, mysteries and miracles of the world.
Reflect and create your favorite ways to enjoy walking as a spiritual experience.
You may be surprised…the spiritual benefits may eventually exceed the physical ones.
