This part deserves your mind-body-spirit attention!
Taking care of your feet is much more than wearing high-quality, supportive shoes.
Basic foot anatomy - 26 bones, 29 muscles, 200,000+ nerve endings - reveals that the foot is complex. So, taking good care of these tissues requires a steady, progressive approach.
You may already know some excellent exercises to stretch and strengthen the foot and ankle. And maybe balance exercises. But do you ever get your hands on your feet and really connect with them?
Due to the intricacy of this part, a daily dose of mindful tissue massage and joint mobilization is highly recommended. Use your fingers and thumbs to move the skin around. Make sure each small joint in your toes is moved back and forth a few times. Tilt your heel inward and outward. Apply pressure through the arches. Separate and shift the long (metatarsal) bones.
If you want professional guidance, consult your physical therapist or massage therapist. In case your hands are unable to adequately squeeze and grab, you can learn how to use a tennis ball or wooden spoon as implements.
As you get more intimate with your feet, you will become tuned in. You will discover and alleviate tender points and areas of tension. Your consistent effort and awareness will lead to deeper groundedness and gratitude.
This part does its best work when your mind and spirit are interwoven into its care.
Connect with your feet!
