The Value of Metaphors…

Witnessing the change of the caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, many are impressed with the same message - transformation.

Then when someone uses the metaphor “transformation like a butterfly,” the expression resonates, intellectually and emotionally. The associated imagery causes the words to come to life, to deepen the understanding and impact.

When recovering from an injury, surgery, or physical ailment, speak and think in metaphors that promote and enhance healing.

Consider these and then create others that are especially meaningful to you:

  • “Repair my bones like a bricklayer rebuilds a foundation”

  • “Run as freely as the wind”

  • “Comfortable and relaxed as the dog naps in the sun”

  • “Motivated like the cat chasing the mouse”

Allow the imagery of metaphors to include vivid colors, varied textures, and purposeful action. Allow the imagery to fully enter in.
